BBC iplayer radio etc.

Post by gruff »

Hi,
BBC are finally removing Flash and moving to HTML5. They set a cookie and then i-player and radio are delivered in HTML5.
Simple to activate with Chrome, but struggling to get it going in Iron. Used various User Agent Strings (Including the latest chrome one) but BBC says I need to install Flash in Iron.

Set the bbc HTML5 cookies here:-

Listen to the radio here:-

Sure, but it didn't work either. Same screen as above. :(

PS. I did try 'Run as administrtor' on it too, just in case.....

edit: that was the 64 bit Win 7. Just going to try on 32 bit.
edit: nope. 32 bit machine is the same too.

Hmm, does it shows you:
"You are currently opted in to the BBC HTML5 Player beta."

on the html5 page?

Ah, well spotted. That's different!

No, on chrome there is an opt-in or opt-out button, top right.

On Iron, however, it says:-
Will the beta work on my device?
We expect your device to work with the
new HTML5 Player. As Flash is not
installed or enabled in your browser, we
will automatically use the HTML5 Player
beta where possible.

I guess their code is broken. It uses HTML5 if you choose, but it wants flash (which is built into Chrome e.g.) to have installed nevertheless.

So maybe try to install it and it will then use the HTML5 Player if you choose:
